Michael Stollberg (http://homepage.uibk.ac.at/homepage/c703/c703241), born in 1977 in Bielefeld (Germany), is a PhD-Student in Computer Science at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, and a junior research member of the Digital Enterprise Research Institute DERI lead by Prof. Dr. Dieter Fensel.

Before Michael joined DERI in summer 2003, he obtained a master degree in Communication Science, Computer Science, and Economics at the Free University of Berlin, Germany with excellent grades. In his master thesis Michael Stollberg addressed the challenges on ontology technologies with regard to their usability as the semantic basis for the Semantic Web. During his studies, Michael worked for several software companies in Berlin engaged in mid- and large scale internet application development projects. His main work areas were design and development as well as project management assistance. He also gained experiences as in training and coaching.

Michael is involved in several research and IST-projects, namely DIP, h-TechSight and SWWS. He is project coordinator of the Semantic Web Fred project. In his research work he is concentrating on challenges of Semantic Web and Semantic Web Services technologies with special regards to the resulting impacts on information system architectures.

Matthew Moran (http://deri.ie/sws/members/matt/) is a research engineer with the Semantic Web Services cluster of DERI, Galway. His main research activity is in the development of execution environment software for Semantic Web Services particularly in the context of P2P systems. He is a member of DIP, an EU-framework 6 project (http://dip.semanticweb.org/). The major mission of DIP is to further develop semantic web and web services, with the goal of enabling their combination into one.

Professionally,

Matthew has ten years professional experience developing industrial-standard, component-based software in Germany, Australia and Ireland. The main focus of this experience has been in the design and development of database applications using various RDBM systems with C++, Visual Basic and Java.

Before joining DERI Matthew worked as a senior software engineer developing web-based Digital Asset and Content Management applications. He obtained a B.E. in Electronic Engineering at the National University of Ireland, Galway in 1993 and is currently studying for an M. Sc. Eng at DERI.

John Domingue (http://www.open.ac.uk/people/domingue) is the Deputy Director of the Knowledge Media Institute at The Open University, UK. He has published over 70 refereed articles in the areas of semantic web, ontologies and human computer interaction. Since the late 90s he has been investigating how knowledge and internet technologies can support the creation and sharing of knowledge and is currently a principle investigator or co-investigator on half a dozen projects funded by the European Union and UK Science funding councils. These include the 6 year EPSRC funded Advanced Knowledge Technologies Project (AKT) and the EU funded DIP project on semantic web services.

In the late 90s John designed and implemented the WebOnto tool which supported both the synchronous and asynchronous distributed development of ontologies. More recently John has been a lead researcher on the IRS-II and Magpie projects. IRS-II is both a framework and implemented infrastructure for developing and using semantic web services (see http://kmi.open.ac.uk/projects/irs/). Magpie supports sense-making on the web through the real time ontological enrichment of web pages couple with semantic services (see http://kmi.open.ac.uk/projects/magpie/).

John serves on the programme committee for a significant number of conferences. In 2002 he was a Poster and Demo chair for the ACM Intelligent User Interfaces conference and last year he was the workshop chair for the ACM Knowledge Capture conference. He is currently serving as the workshop chair for the European Conference on Knowledge Engineering and Management (EKAW).

John has a research background in learning and has published journal articles on learning in an academic context and also within a work context. He served as an Open University tutor on an AI course for a decade and was an Open University AI course chair 2000-2002. Finally, he was a tutor on last year’s successful OntoWeb summer school on Ontological Engineering and the Semantic Web and will act as a tutor at this year’s summer school.

John Domingue graduated in Computer Science from the University of Warwick. He then completed a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence at The Open University. Since gaining his PhD he has been employed as a researcher at The Open University.
